UC Works

Earn a college degree without student loan debt with UC Works!

The University of Charleston is proud to collaborate with WorkforceWV and other business partners to establish UC Works: a combination scholarship and work program in which eligible students will utilize institutional, state, and federal aid programs to cover their UC undergraduate tuition and mandatory fees without out-of-pocket cost or the need to take out students loans. UC Works students will also be matched with a local employer for part-time paid employment during their enrollment at UC.

Who is eligible?

UC Works is for WV resident students admitted as first-time freshmen to the University of Charleston in an in-seat, four-year bachelor’s degree program (see below for eligible programs) who are eligible to receive federal Pell Grant, West Virginia Higher Education Grant, and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funds.

How do I apply for UC Works?

  1. Apply for admission to the University of Charleston via our online application.
  2. Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.gov and select UC (school code 003818) to receive your results.
  3. Complete the UC Works supplemental application and email it to admissions@ucwv.edu.

 

Qualified students will be accepted to UC Works on a rolling basis until the cohort is full. Apply early for best consideration.

What do I get if I’m selected for UC Works?

Students selected for the UC Works program will receive the following:

  • UC academic scholarship based on high school GPA
  • Federal Pell Grant as determined by FAFSA submission
  • West Virginia Higher Education Grant as determined by FAFSA submission
  • Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) tuition grant as determined by WorkforceWV assessment
  • A UC Works scholarship to cover the remainder of the tuition and mandatory fees after application of above aid
  • Consideration of additional support through WorkforceWV partners to possibly assist with other school-related expenses (e.g. books)
  • Link to part-time employment that supports your academic studies while enrolled

Our goal is for your part-time employment to enhance your area of study in addition to providing you with a source of income. So if you’re a Healthcare Administration and Management major, we want to match you with a role in the healthcare sector. WorkforceWV is our key partner in matching UC Works students with employment. As we match students with employment partners we will list them here.
