PA Traditional Admission Pathway
The Traditional Admission Pathway is for applicants who will have a bachelor’s degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited college or university by the time they matriculate into the UC PA Program.
Applicants submit their application through the Centralized Application Service for Physician Assistants CASPA.
A Traditional Application will only be reviewed once all the following requirements are met:
- A CASPA-verified application status obtained by September 1st.
- A CASPA-defined overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- An applicant with a GPA between 2.95 – 2.99 can be considered if enrolled in an additional course(s) with the possibility of attaining an overall CASPA-defined cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Two references in CASPA no later than September 1st.
- We strongly encourage one letter of recommendation from a healthcare provider (MD, DO, or PA) and the other from an instructor.
- An official GRE score in the CASPA application by September 15th.
- Our CASPA-specific GRE code is 8830.
- While GRE scores contribute to the overall strength of an application, there is no minimum GRE score requirement.
- An official TOEFL score (if applicable) in the CASPA application by September 15th:
- Applicants for whom English is a second language are required to have an official score report of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) in CASPA no later than September 15th, unless the requirement is waived by the PA program.
- The program can waive the TOEFL if an applicant has earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university.
- Applications that require the TOEFL will not be reviewed until an official score has been submitted.
- Should the Admissions Committee deem that an applicant has not demonstrated English proficiency, the applicant will be asked to take and submit an official TOEFL score to be further considered for a seat in the program.
- Minimum accepted TOEFL scores:
- Paper-Based Test (PBT): 550 or higher
- Internet-Based Test (IBT): 80 or higher
- If an applicant who has met minimum TOEFL scores demonstrates a deficiency in written or verbal communication, the Admissions Committee reserves the right to no longer consider the applicant for a seat in the program.
- All official transcripts from previously attended colleges and universities in CASPA.
- International transcript evaluation (if applicable):
- Applicants who have taken coursework or obtained a degree from an institution outside of the United States are required to have their educational credentials evaluated by any National Association of Credential Evaluation Services agency (NACES ←click here).
- The official report must be in CASPA no later than September 1st.
- Higher education institutions located in a U.S. territory do not need to be evaluated as long as the transcripts are in English.
- Higher education institutions located in Canada must be evaluated by any NACES agency.
Once all required materials (listed above) have been submitted through CASPA, applications will be reviewed and interview invitations will be extended in accordance with the Admission Policy.
Conditional seat offers can be made as long as the following are completed, in progress, and/or a feasible plan is included to have them completed by the time of matriculation:
- A U.S. bachelor’s degree or higher:
- A bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Include a feasible written plan in the UC PA supplemental CASPA question section if a bachelor’s degree or higher has not yet been earned.
- International bachelor’s degree or higher (if applicable):
- An equivalent bachelor’s degree or higher per on official NACES agency evaluation.
- Include a feasible written plan in the UC PA supplemental CASPA question section if an equivalent bachelor’s degree or higher has not yet been earned.
- U.S. Prerequisites:
- Indicate in the Program Materials section in the CASPA application which prerequisite courses (←click here) you have completed.
- The program will confirm if selected prerequisites meet requirements. The program may consider upper-level or equivalent courses to satisfy prerequisite requirements.
- The Admissions Coordinator will contact the applicant to request additional information, if needed.
- If it is determined that the applicant’s prerequisites do not meet the published requirements, applicants will be given an opportunity to document a feasible plan to complete the prerequisites by the time of matriculation. Documenting a feasible plan will allow an application to remain under consideration for an interview.
- Include a feasible written plan in the UC PA supplemental CASPA question section if all prerequisite courses have not yet been completed.
- Prerequisites must be taken from a regionally accredited college or university; the program does not accept prerequisites from non-regionally accredited institutions such as Portage Learning, StraighterLine, or Sophia Online Learning.
- International Prerequisite (if applicable):
- Applicants who have completed prerequisites at an institution outside of the United States must upload English-written syllabi for those courses to the Document section in the CASPA application. After review, the program will inform the applicant if any courses can be applied toward the prerequisites.
- The program reserves the right not to accept international prerequisite courses.
