Awarded to students whose abilities, talents, perspectives, and future goals will serve to strengthen the UC community.

Students may be nominated by a UC faculty or staff member based on their interactions with the student. Students must be admitted to UC and file the FAFSA to be considered.

 

Award Information:

  • Up to $5,000 per year depending on scholarship package and residency status

Awarded to students selected to represent UC as a student ambassador in the Office of Admissions. Ambassadors have a weekly work requirement that supports UC’s enrollment management efforts.

 

Requirements for consideration:

  • HS/transfer GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Personal statement about why you want to be a student ambassador
  • Letter of recommendation from a teacher addressing student’s potential to be an effective ambassador
  • Interview with Senior Admissions Representative

 

Award Information:

  • $500 – $1,000 per year, depending on residency status

  • Must be an outstanding NCAA Division II level athlete and meet UC admissions requirements
  • Offered by athletic coaches
  • Is combined with an academic scholarship or opportunity grant awarded upon admission to UC. The total scholarship package offered can only change with coach or athletic director approval.

The University of Charleston, through a unique partnership with the National Science Foundation, can help you pursue your educational goals with the Environmental Challenges Scholarship.

The scholarship is available for twelve exceptional students, and is worth up to $9,500 annually to cover unmet financial needs for qualifying students pursuing a four-year degree in Biology, Chemistry, Dual Chemistry-Biology, Data Analytics and Computer Science.

This scholarship also provides more than funding. Through the program, students participate in activities that encourage their professional development, including research opportunities focused on the environmental sciences and ecology of West Virginia.

The group will be mentored by a UC STEM faculty member and focus on preparing scholarship participants for a science career. Opportunities are also available for summer service and educational trips, as well as internships.

Application Requirements

  • You must have a GPA of 2,75 or higher
  • Have demonstrated financial need (via FAFSA)
  • Fill out the interest form, then watch the “Careers in STEM” information event online: www.tinyurl.com/UCSPEC
  • Complete the quantitative reasoning skills test online and a science assessment (information will be sent to you when you indicate your interest in the program)
  • Complete a performance task on the UC campus (This will be done within current UC covid-19 protocols. The task will be related to your intended major and will involve research and/or an activity in our lab.)
