University of Charleston

Studying in the US is a big step – and an exciting adventure. Here are some things to keep in mind as you prepare for life at UC and the US.

About Charleston

The University of Charleston is located in West Virginia’s state capitol. The campus is directly across the river from the State Capitol Complex, and a short distance from downtown Charleston.

There is plenty to do in Charleston and in West Virginia itself. For outdoor sports lovers, there is biking, hiking, skiing, white water rafting and more close by. If you love the arts, Charleston offers many opportunities for concerts, museums and art galleries, cultural events, international films, movies and more.

Keep in mind that Charleston has four seasons, so it gets chilly in the late fall and cold in the winter – and we often have snowy weather during the winter and early spring.

Please remember that our Office of International Programs is here to help you make the transition, and to help you with any problems or concerns. We will do our best to make you feel at home during your time at UC.

Admissions

The University of Charleston has a rolling admissions process which means you can apply at any time. However, international applicants should keep in mind that the student visa interview process can take a significant amount of time to complete.

It is recommended that international applicants complete the application process at least six weeks prior to the beginning of the desired semester.

Visit our International Admissions Requirements page for more information.

English as a Second Language

To help you with your coursework and social life, learning the language is important. Our English as a Second Language (ENSL) Bridge Program was developed to help our international students strengthen their English proficiency to promote integration into the regular curriculum.

Get Involved

Plan to get involved. Being part of a team or an organization can help you feel at home more quickly. Join our Global Student Union to meet other international students, or find a club that supports your passion.
