What To Bring
What you should bring to campus (and what you shouldn't).
In all the excitement of packing, we want to help you remember all the things you will need. Here is our list of what to bring, what not to, and what you might consider bringing to make your room feel like home.
Note: Health and safety room checks will be conducted once a month. Violators will face disciplinary action.
- Mattress cover (extra long twin size)
- Sheets, pillows & pillowcases (extra long twin size)
- Blanket
- Comforter/bedspread (extra long twin size)
- Towels, washcloths, toiletries (soap, shampoo, etc.)
- Shower curtains
- Trash can
- Alarm clock
- Laundry bag/basket
- Laundry detergent/dryer sheets
- Flashlight
- Bathroom cleaning supplies
- Clothes hangers
- Cups, glasses, plates, bowls, and silverware (microwave safe)
- Desk lamp
- Milk crates, waffle blocks, or plastic storage bins
- Posters and souvenirs (to make your room feel more like home)
- Poster Putty for hanging posters and pictures…no other adhesives are allowed to be used on the wall
- Electrical heating appliances such as space heaters, hot plates, electric blankets, toasters (Do not bring any appliance with an open coil or flame.)
- Microwave ovens (over 1000 Watts)
- Pets (except fish; 10-gallon tank limit)
- Any type of extension cord is NOT ALLOWED
- Sun lamps
- Electric blankets
- Candles
- Incense
- Power strips/surge protectors (Note: Extension cords are not permitted.)
- Personal computer
- Refrigerator under 4.4 cubic feet
- Curtains (All rooms have at least one window, and a few have more than one. All windows have blinds.)
- Coffee maker (Even if you don’t drink coffee, you can heat water for tea or soup)
- Ironing board & iron
- Radio/stereo
- Study lamp
- Blow dryer/curling iron
- Throw rugs
Students generally remember to bring the basic essentials, but here are a few other things that will be good to have. Remember, UC is in an area that has four seasons, so keep in mind that you will need a winter coat and other cold weather gear.
- Business clothes – for attending career fairs, applying for internships, or making presentations
- Step stool (a folding one takes up less room)
- Extra charger
- Can opener
- Scissors and other office-type supplies
- First Aid kit
- Umbrella
- Beach towel or blanket to use when studying on the riverbank
- Batteries
- Pictures from home
