IT Helpdesk Technician

JOB SUMMARY: 

Assist university faculty, staff, and students with technology needs. Provide basic trouble shooting for university computers, network, and technical equipment. Correct user problems and answer questions through telephone and email support. Provide login and email support to all students, faculty, and staff. Work with other IT staff to service the technology needs of the University. Use campus ticketing systems to log all IT related work requests.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

  • Answer inbound support calls
  • Respond to inquiries and requests for assistance with the university’s computer systems or PC’s
  • Use campus ticketing systems to log all IT related work requests
  • Provide login support to campus systems and email including PC repairs
  • Event setups and takedowns
  • Support the university’s Learning Management System
  • Operate the Daktronics Show Control system for games in the gym.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work with and have knowledge of many operating systems including:
    • Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010 (Access, Excel, IE, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word)
    • Adobe Acrobat Professional
    • Apple IOS support
  • Strong knowledge of computer hardware/software installation and troubleshooting procedures
  • Ability to work independently and collegially with little supervision
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to approach problems and people in a professional manner
  • Ability to work in a developing and changing technology environment
  • Customer service oriented
  • Highly motivated and a team player
  • Ability to be on-time
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various customers, e.g., students, faculty, external contacts, and supervised staff
  • Good problem-solving skills and decision making
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Flexible, resourceful, willing to learn / cross-train / teach
  • Receptive to feedback from all constituents
  • Ability to organize and prioritize effectively
  • Knowledge of projectors and PA systems a plus

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associates Degree in Computer Science or comparable certifications or related work experience of at least 1 year required. A+ certification a plus.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office hours between 7:00 am – 6:00 pm, weekend & evening hours maybe required on occasion
  • Business casual dress policy
  • Medium work: frequently carrying objects of 25+ lbs.
  • Climbing, balancing, stooping, and bending are required, along with hearing and vision
