Dr. Nicole Scheiman is the founding Program Director and an Associate Professor in the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) program at the University of Charleston. She brings more than 10 years of academic leadership and teaching experience and more than 27 years of clinical practice across the continuum of care.

Prior to joining the University of Charleston, Dr. Scheiman served as the founding program director for the nation’s first bachelor’s-level Occupational Therapy Assistant program at Huntington University in Huntington, Indiana. She previously served as Program Director for the Occupational Therapy Assistant program at AdventHealth University in Orlando, Florida, and held progressive healthcare leadership roles including occupational therapist, clinical supervisor, rehabilitation manager, and Director of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine for Florida Hospital in DeLand, Florida. During her tenure at Florida Hospital DeLand, she was awarded a $300,000 grant to develop hospital employee, patient, and community health programming and partnership initiatives.

Dr. Scheiman’s clinical expertise includes acute, transitional, and long-term care, outpatient rehabilitation, home health, assisted living, prevention and wellness, ergonomics, and lymphedema consultation. Her scholarship and professional presentations at the state, national, and international levels focus on oncology rehabilitation, lymphedema, and clinical education. She also serves as a continuing education instructor through Summit Education, where she offers multiple courses for occupational and physical therapy practitioners.

Dr. Scheiman has been recognized by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) with the Excellence in Advancement of Occupational Therapy Award (2022) and the AOTA Champion Award (2015). She maintains active engagement in the profession through membership in AOTA, NBCOT, WVOTA, NLN, LANA, and Kinesiotaping Association International.
