Dr. Nicole Scheiman is the Program Director for the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy. Coming to the University of Charleston with more than ten years of leadership and teaching experience. Dr. Scheiman was most recently the founding program director for the first bachelor level occupational therapy assistant program in the country at Huntington University, in Huntington, Indiana.

Dr. Scheiman previously served as the Program Director for the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at Advent Health University in Orlando Florida. Additionally, Dr. Scheiman has served as an occupational therapist, clinical supervisor, rehab manager, and lastly as the Director of Rehab and Sports Medicine for Florida Hospital in DeLand Florida. While at Florida Hospital DeLand she was awarded a $300,000 grant for the development of a hospital employee, patient, and community health programming and partnership initiative.

With over 25 years of clinical experience, Dr. Scheiman is proficient at providing acute, transitional, and long-term care, outpatient rehab, home care, long-term care, assisted living, animal-assisted therapy, prevention and wellness, ergonomics, and is an experienced lymphedema consultant.

In 2022, Dr. Scheiman received the “Excellent in Advancement of Occupational Therapy” award from the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and was also awarded the “AOTA Champion” in 2015.

Dr. Scheiman’s research along with her state, national, and international level presentations focus primarily in the areas of oncology, lymphedema, and clinical education. An additional passion of Dr. Scheiman’s is providing continuing education to occupational and physical therapy practitioners through Summit Education, where she has nine courses offered.
