Professor Heather Carpenter is a native West Virginian, born in Charleston and raised in a small rural town. She has been a Physician Assistant since 2012. Her passion for becoming a Physician Assistant was first sparked in high school by her biology teacher. Watching her grandmother battle health issues further solidified that calling, as she saw firsthand the impact compassionate healthcare providers could have during difficult times. From that experience, she knew she wanted to be a light for others in the same way those providers were for her grandmother. Professor Carpenter’s primary passion is pediatrics, and that is where she has spent most of her clinical career. Before becoming a full-time faculty member in December 2025, she served as both a clinical preceptor and adjunct faculty member. Although she is new to academia, she is excited and eager to stand alongside students as they prepare to become the best healthcare professionals they can be. When she is not teaching, Professor Carpenter enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband and daughter.
