Physics Adjunct – Department of Natural Sciences

Position Summary:

The Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Charleston, Charleston, WV, invites applications for a part-time adjunct position to teach Introductory Physics I and Introductory Physics II in support of undergraduate majors in Biology and related Health Science majors.

Physics I (with lab) covers topics in mechanics, thermodynamics, and waves, including motion in one and two dimensions, forces, energy, momentum, collisions, rotational motion, properties of solids and fluids, thermal processes, vibrations, and sound. Physics II (with lab) focuses on electricity and magnetism, light and optics, relativity, and introductions to quantum, atomic, and nuclear physics.

The Adjunct position is in-seat at the University of Charleston campus in Charleston, WV, beginning August 2026. Candidates must be available to teach in the classroom during the day on the Charleston campus. Physics I is fall semester and Physics II is spring semester.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

Primary duties include, but are not limited to

  • Updating class syllabus
  • Using LMS to report grades, post assignments, and communications
  • Holding out-of-class conferences with students as required
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course
  • Meeting all designated class periods
  • Submitting quarterly assessments and final grades
  • Posting feedback and grades to the LMS in a timely manner
  • Maintaining communication with students and other faculty members

 

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in a related field or M.S. in the content area, and demonstrated teaching experience
  • A commitment to undergraduate education with expertise in math, physics, or physical chemistry, and demonstrated dedication to STEM education
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
