C.J. Harvey UC Vice PresidentThe University of Charleston announces that C.J. Harvey has been selected as its next Vice President of Communications and Marketing following a national search.

Harvey most recently served as West Virginia Governor Jim Justice’s director of communications, overseeing statewide branding and messaging initiatives across multiple state agencies. He played a key role in developing and promoting campaigns highlighting West Virginia’s economic resurgence, record-setting tourism growth, major infrastructure projects, and historic tax reforms.

In addition to his public service role, Harvey co-founded Mountaineer Media, a digital platform dedicated to sharing the West Virginia experience through positive storytelling and innovative content development. Previously, Harvey worked as an anchor and reporter for WCHS-TV, where he received an Edward R. Murrow award for breaking news coverage, along with an Emmy nomination and Associated Press award for his high school and college athletics coverage.

“C.J. brings to UC extensive experience in digital media and storytelling, organizational communications, and broadcasting,” stated UC President Marty Roth. “He is creative and innovative, thinks both strategically and tactically, keenly understands markets, and is an inspirational leader.”

Harvey graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in business administration. He officially assumed his role at UC on January 2, 2025.
