From amateur sports to professional leagues, sports announcing to event planning, our Sport Business degree will prepare you for a wide range of career possibilities. We have two main focus areas: Instruction from academic professionals with experience in the sport industry, and class assignments that prepare you to be successful in the area you choose. The design of the program also encourages you to complete a second major or a minor in another field, enhancing your marketability in the job field.
Our program blends liberal learning, business and sport administration courses in a curriculum designed to prepare you for your future. You will study a range of business classes, including accounting, economics, business and marketing, in addition to a wide range of sport business related topics. Every student will complete a Sport Business Internship, providing additional knowledge and training while offering real world experience.
Students must first gain general admission to the University of Charleston prior to acceptance into the Bachelor of Science in Sport Business Program.
The Sport Business major consists of a foundational core of business classes and a diverse selection of sport business classes to prepare the graduate for the sport industry. Practicum and Internships are also included that allow the student to work with a sport business organization.

The minor in Sport Business requires the student to complete 18 credit hours of Sport Business (SPBU) classes. Nine hours of credit will be achieved in upper level classes (300 or 400 level).

The University of Charleston’s location in the region’s business, financial, government, and medical center offers practical work experience opportunities for Sport Business students.
Students are required to complete a practicum experience in their sophomore year and an internship with a sports organization in their senior year.
