The newly designed curriculum is intentional in reflecting the institutional mission and vision of the University of Charleston and the Honors College. Honors graduates can complete the program in a 3 or 4-year timeline.

There Honors Education certificate signifies a student who is multidimensional. The co-curricular nature of its design communicates to employers and graduate and professional schools that the Honor Certificate holder is uniquely prepared. The certificate holder can demonstrate academic excellence, specialized skill development, the completion of enhanced learning and recreational opportunities. Students will be prepared for future goals, engaged in networking and community building, and committed to personal growth and challenges. The certificate indicates the fulfillment of honors program requirements and further differentiates its designee as having worked with unique commitment and excellence.

Certificate Requirements

  • HNRS First Year Seminar 103 and 104 – (6 credits)
  • Interdisciplinary Colloquium Courses– (Minimum 2, 1– credit each)
  • Capstone Seminar- (2 credits)
  • Co-Curricular Experiences – 6 (Portfolio)

 

Program Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate intellectual curiosity utilizing arguments that critically analyze information from a variety of sources and diverse perspectives.
  2. Apply values of ethical leadership, interdisciplinary engagement, and respect for diversity.
  3. Contribute and collaborate as informed members of local and global communities.
