The University of Charleston will honor the law enforcement professionals who have completed their Senior Leadership Certificate for Law Enforcement, offered through the UC School of Leadership. About 300 law enforcement professionals participated in the program, and their work will be celebrated with a special graduation ceremony on Saturday, March 15, at 11:00 a.m.

The keynote speaker for the event will be Robert “Rob” Cunningham, Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Homeland Security, who will address the graduates. Cunningham is a career federal agent and former state trooper and has dedicated his career to public safety. Before retiring from the U.S. Department of Justice in December 2022, he served as a senior special agent at its Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for more than 20 years.

The event will be held in the Geary Auditorium, with a reception following in the rotunda.

In June 2024, UC expanded its educational certificate programs to include the Senior Leadership Certificate for Law Enforcement. The program is funded through a Department of Justice grant secured through the Congressionally Directed Spending process. All program costs were grant-funded. Enrollment was open to WV law enforcement professionals throughout the state. Over 25 weeks, participants completed five 5-week courses, earning a Senior Leadership Certificate for Law Enforcement and 15 college credits that can be applied to a UC leadership degree program. All program costs are grant-funded.
