The University of Charleston will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Morrison Rehabilitation Science and Athletic Center on Thursday, June 19, at 5:00 p.m.

The public is invited to join University leaders, Board of Trustees members, faculty, and staff to open the home for UC’s new graduate degree programs in occupational and physical therapy, developed to meet the increasing demands for rehabilitation services in the city, state, and region.

Including the new program development and renovation costs, this is a $10 million project, made possible through the generosity of many area foundations, individual donors, and external grants.

The renovation of Gorman Hall and former swimming pool includes modern occupational and physical therapy labs, quiet study rooms, and lounge and meeting spaces, ensuring students have the tools needed for success. The facility also houses a classroom and faculty/staff offices. Adjacent spaces include new and renovated visitor locker rooms, laundry facilities, and weight training rooms for student athletes.

The Center is named after the late J. Holmes Morrison, the longest-serving Chair of UC’s Board of Trustees, a renowned area banker, and a community icon.

Following the ribbon cutting, tours of the new facility will be available.
