UC to Offer Artificial Intelligence Major
Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping the world, and the University of Charleston is preparing its students to lead the charge.
Beginning in Fall 2025, UC will offer a major in Artificial Intelligence, providing students with the tools and training to thrive in one of today’s most dynamic and fast-growing fields.
“We are proud to launch a program that will prepare our students to lead in the rapidly evolving world of artificial intelligence,” said UC President Marty Roth. “Our graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to drive innovation and lead in a wide range of industries shaped by artificial intelligence. This program represents an exciting step forward for UC as we empower the next generation of leaders to thrive in an AI-driven world.”
“Our new AI major is designed to prepare students not only to use AI, but to understand and shape its future,” said Dr. Vincent Smith, Program Director of Computer Science and Data Analytics. “We emphasize ethical development, real-world applications, and interdisciplinary collaboration—ensuring our graduates are not just tech-savvy, but thoughtful, well-rounded problem-solvers ready to innovate across industries.”
Students in the program will gain hands-on experience designing and implementing intelligent systems that can analyze, predict, and optimize complex problems, using the latest tools and technologies shaping the AI landscape.
With artificial intelligence transforming every sector of the economy, UC’s new major will ensure graduates are equipped to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving workforce.
