School of Pharmacy Receives Full Accreditation
The University of Charleston School of Pharmacy has received notification that its full program accreditation is continued for the maximum term of eight years, through June 2032.
The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education sets 25 rigorous standards that each pharmacy program must meet.
“Our pharmacy community worked diligently for nearly two years, completing a self-study process documenting how we meet these standards,” explained Dr. Kristy Lucas, Dean of the School of Pharmacy. “At the ACPE site visit in April, the team of visitors, consisting of representatives from ACPE and other colleges of pharmacy, was very impressed by our students, faculty, staff, preceptors, and all involved with UC and UCSOP. The ACPE site visit team even identified three areas of excellence in which they commended our program and wrote up a “noteworthy practices” report for other pharmacy schools to learn how our program goes above and beyond set standards.”
The ACPE website states, “ACPE accreditation is public recognition that a professional degree program leading to the Doctor of Pharmacy degree is judged to meet established qualifications and education standards through initial and subsequent periodic evaluations. The essential purpose of the accreditation process is to provide a professional judgment of the quality of a college or school of pharmacy’s professional program and to encourage continued improvement thereof. Accreditation concerns itself with both quality assurance and quality enhancement.”
