Outdoor Fitness Court Opens
With a very special ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 29, the UC Outdoor Fitness Court is now open to the community. The court is part of the National Fitness Campaign, which builds free fitness resources in communities nationwide, it is only the second one to be built in West Virginia and the first to offer such a beautiful view while working out!
WV Senator Joe Manchin, President Marty Roth, and donor David Hendrickson cut the ribbon on a beautiful day. Several student-athletes were on hand to demonstrate the facility, and a crowd of UC faculty, staff, and supporters joined the event.
“Health and wellness are so important today not only for our students but for all of our employees and for our entire community, so to be able to offer this free, easily accessible outdoor fitness court, I think it’s going to be a real asset to the community and to something that’s important to us as Charleston’s university,” UC President Marty Roth said.
Designed by the National Fitness Campaign, the UC Outdoor Fitness Court provides a full-body workout in only seven minutes and is free and open to the public. The workout includes seven zones – core, squat, push, lunge, pull, agility, and bend – for a circuit training workout. The Fitness Court is located between the Boat House and the Morrison Fitness Center on the river lawn.
The Court wall features clear instructions on using specific stations and exercises, and a QR code provides access to a video tutorial, ensuring everyone can make the most of this new facility.
The National Fitness Campaign’s mission is to establish similar fitness courts across America by 2030. This initiative aims to increase pedestrian movement and make world-class fitness accessible to all, fostering a healthier and more active nation. https://www.nationalfitnesscampaign.com.
