University of Charleston

CommencementThe University of Charleston will hold its December Graduation Ceremony this Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. The ceremony will be held in the H. Bernard Wehrle Athletic Arena on the UC campus.

Our December graduates came to UC from right here in Charleston and as far away as Japan, Vietnam, Germany, the United Kingdom, and more. Some completed their studies in Charleston, others did so at our Beckley location or online. They are completing their Associate of Science, Bachelor of Arts, MBA, DEL, and other degrees. Five are graduating from our new Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner program.

In all, there will be about 160 students participating. A reception for the graduates and guests in the Rotunda will follow the ceremony.

The commencement speaker will be Roger Hanshaw, 58th Speaker of the WV House of Delegates, who will also receive an honorary degree. Sam Scott, Associate Director of Young Life Kanawha Valley, will offer the invocation. Madeline Dankmyer, Elijah Newell, and Abigail Stapler will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and the University Singers will perform the Alma Mater.

The graduates participating in the ceremonies will represent the University’s Charleston, Beckley, and online programs and four of its five distinct schools: School of Arts & Sciences, School of Health Sciences, School of Business, and the School of Leadership. (UC School of Pharmacy students graduate in the spring commencement ceremonies.)
