The University of Charleston will go head-to-head (or arm to arm) with West Virginia State University as they participate in their annual “Blood Drive Battle” to help the American Red Cross.

The University of Charleston will hold its drive on Monday, October 30, and Tuesday, October 31, in the Appalachian Room of Geary Student Union from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm both days.

The winner of the battle (based on the number of donors) will be announced at halftime of the UC-State football game that will be played on Saturday, November 11, at UC Stadium. Game time is noon.

Donors are asked to schedule an appointment to give blood. You can schedule yours at https://www.redcrossblood.org/. Keyword is uoc.

UC was barely edged out of the winner’s circle last year, so this year, added incentives are being offered to encourage participation. The office/department that donates the most blood will enjoy a free lunch from a local restaurant. For students, we will pit commuters against residential students, and the winners will receive a pizza party. All donors will receive a free t-shirt from the Red Cross while supplies last.

Every two seconds, someone in the US needs blood: accident and burn victims, those undergoing surgery, those battling cancer, and more. Because there is such an ongoing need, blood drives are critical to having adequate supplies on hand.
