University of Charleston

UC’s COVID-19 Virtual Command Center would like to remind everyone that it is our individual personal responsibility to take care of ourselves and to do all that we can to help protect other members of our UC community from exposure to COVID-19 or other illnesses.  Please follow all recommended guidance to help keep yourself and others in our UC community safe and healthy.

HAVING SYMPTOMS?

If you are having symptoms that could be related to COVID-19, we encourage you to seek medical assistance and to take advantage of self-administered antigen testing or community testing opportunities before coming to campus or engaging in any face-to-face university activities throughout the semester.

If you have tested positive for COVID-19, please:

  • Isolate at home or in your room in accordance with the CDC guidance, for at least 5 days and wear a mask post-isolation for an additional 5 days while indoors or around other people.
  • Residential students are highly encouraged to go home to isolate and recover.  The University will not be offering food delivery.
  • Inform anyone with whom you have had close contact.
  • Inform your instructors.
  • Inform your supervisor if you work on campus in any capacity and keep him/her updated on how you are doing.
  • As appropriate, inform coaches, preceptors, or other pertinent individuals who need to know your status.
  • Follow the guidance for your period of isolation provided by the CDC using the Isolation & Exposure Calculator.

If you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, please:

Class Attendance

  • Please follow the attendance policy for in-seat classes as published in the 2023-2024 University catalog (p. 69). As the policy notes, “Illness can serve as the basis for an excused absence [but] it is always the responsibility of the student to inform an instructor in advance if he or she is unable to attend or participate in instructional activities”. An instructor may request a student to submit medical documentation in support of this type of excused absence.
  • Per the Absence Policy Guidance in the UC Student Handbook (p. 105), if a student will need to miss more than three (3) days of class, they may contact the Dean of Students to request. assistance contacting their faculty.  Students are still required to contact their faculty as well and provide documentation requested.
