UC Celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Enlightened Living Week
Campus Celebrates Martin Luther King Jr and Enlightened Living Week
The University of Charleston will honor its mission of educating students for “a life of productive work, enlightened living and community service” by celebrating its annual Enlightened Living program.
This year, the campus will honor the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, January 16, with several special events including a screening of “From Selma to Stonewall: Are We There Yet?”, discussion groups, and an on-campus Unity March and Candlight Vigil.
The event then transitions into Enlightened Living Week programming, offering the campus opportunities to participate in a variety of workshops, discussions, and presentations, to develop strategies to build productive and empathic communities, promote collaboration, and explore innovative leadership strategies.
Events will include conversations about classroom safety, issues of racism and diversity, a yoga class, stress management practices, substance abuse information – even a civil rights scavenger hunt and a car smash event.
This initiative was created to help the UC campus community learn about important issues, foster compassion, and deepen connections to others. The programming this year was developed with input from UC students.
