UC Celebrates Fall Graduates, EMS Leadership Program
The University of Charleston will celebrate two very special graduation events this Saturday, December 10, 2022 in the Wehrle Arena in the Innovation Center.
Fall Commencement will take place at 10:00 a.m. with about 150 graduates participating. These students will graduate from programs on the Charleston campus, UC-Beckley, and online representing the School of Arts and Sciences, School of Business and Leadership, the School of Health Sciences, and the Division of Continuing and Professional Education. Both undergraduate and graduate degrees will be conferred at the ceremony.
Charleston Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin will be the commencement speaker and will also receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in appreciation for her many contributions to both the city of Charleston and to UC.
At 2:00 p.m., more than 100 WV Emergency Management Services professionals will celebrate the completion of their Leadership Certificate Programs.
The University of Charleston launched the leadership certificate program for Emergency Management Services (EMS) professionals throughout West Virginia in July 2022. The online program enhanced first responders’ leadership skills and helped retain these critical workers in West Virginia. Over 21 weeks concluding in December, participants completed five, 7-week courses, earning an EMS Leadership Certificate and 15 college credits that can be applied to a leadership degree program. The content was tailored for first responders and with delivery flexible to meet the needs of working adults.
The program is part of Governor Jim Justice’s Emergency Management Services Initiative. Governor Justice will deliver a special address to the participants and will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in recognition of his many contributions to West Virginia.
