Gary Ogilvie has been named Head Coach of the Charleston Women’s Soccer program.

Currently in his third year as an assistant coach for the men’s program, Ogilvie will take over next season as current coach Todd Diuguid will be leaving the program after over two decades of success.

“I’m honored to accept the position of women’s head soccer coach here at Charleston to build upon the success of Todd’s 22 years of service,” said Ogilvie of his new role. “I want to thank Dr. Roth and Dr. Stevens for choosing me for this role and showing faith that I can lead a successful program here. I also want to thank Daniel Smee for giving me the opportunity to become a part of the UC family. It has been a privilege to learn from such a fantastic group of staff.”

“I am excited to have this opportunity to promote one of our own into such an important role within our Athletics program. Gary is incredibly talented and a great student of the game of soccer, and his recruiting contacts throughout the world will allow the squad to continue to be successful both on and off the pitch,” shared Dr. Bren Stevens, UC’s Director of Athletics.

The Essex, England native brings in multiple years of experience as a coach and a player. He currently serves as the head coach for the local USL2 squad, West Virginia United. In just one season with the program, he led them to their third playoff appearance in club history. He is also the head coach of the WVFC 05 Girl’s squad, which reached the regional final this summer.

Prior to coming to UC, Ogilvie spent a year at Snow College as the assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s soccer programs, helping the women reach their first National Tournament appearance in program history.

Before coming to the United States, Ogilvie played for Canterbury United in the ISPS Handa Premiership in New Zealand while serving as the Canterbury United Youth Coach and Football Development Officer for Mainland Football. He also played for the Concord Rangers in England for two years in the National League South.

Ogilvie will begin his new role next season in 2023 as both programs will continue their 2022 campaign into postseason play with the Mountain East Conference Tournament beginning this week.
