Monica Dial Named New UC Cheer Coach

Lincoln County native Monica Dial will join the Golden Eagles as the new head cheerleading coach. While this will be Dial’s first experience as a coach, she brings in fifteen years of her own experience as a cheerleader and has been a mentor in the competitive cheer community over the past decade.

Dial also serves as a professor in the nursing program after twenty-six years of field experience. Over the last eighteen years, Dial has worked at the Hoops Family Children’s Hospital within the Cabell Huntington branch as the lead transport nurse in the intensive care unit. Prior to that, she worked at Charleston Area Medical Center as a registered nurse for seven years.

“This is my first year at the University of Charleston as an educator and coach,” said Dial of her new role. “In this dual role, promoting the development of lifelong values and skills is top priority. I look forward to improving each cheerleader’s confidence, individual skills, and awareness of their team role.”

University of Charleston’s Director of Athletics, Dr. Bren Stevens shared, “I was instantly impressed with Coach Dial’s presence, enthusiasm, and commitment to our cheer program. I am looking forward to having Monica join in with an already talented staff who thoroughly enjoy working with our student-athletes.”

Dial graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing and later earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing education at Mountain State University.
