University of Charleston senior Ryan McFarland has joined the office of WV Secretary of State Mac Warner as a Herndon Fellow. McFarland is majoring in Political Science and Multidisciplinary Studies (combining English, Communication and Psychology). He is a first-generation student and has been active in the UC Student Government Association his freshman, sophomore, and junior years, including being elected to serve as Student Body President this past year.

The prestigious Judith A. Herndon Fellowship gives college students an in-depth opportunity to learn more about the legislature and a state office or agency. It is sponsored by the West Virginia Legislature. To be eligible, a student must be a full time undergraduate at an institution of higher learning in West Virginia, have completed 60 undergraduate hours, have a GPA of 3.0 or better, and have completed a course in political science or have extensive public affairs experience.

“Ryan is a natural leader. We’re happy to have him join the Secretary of State’s Office,” said Secretary Warner. “As we work with our county clerks to prepare for the May 10 Primary Election, I am excited to get Ryan’s input on how we can get more young adults interested and active in the voting process.”

McFarland’s internship will run through April 8, 2022.
