UC Director of Financial Planning and Financial Literacy Jacob Tenney was featured in the “Ask the Experts” section in a WalletHub.com story about its recent survey regarding large purchases.

In the article, Dr. Tenney offers caution on maxing out credit cards and suggests understanding personal risk tolerance and tendencies and how they impact financial decisions – particularly in terms of credit card use. He says, “I strongly recommend thinking of all purchases as large because too frequently those small purchases add up over time.”

The survey showed that, when it comes to large purchases, 67% of those surveyed did not worry about maxing out their cards or over drafting their account when making a large purchase. The majority of those surveyed spend more time planning for a large purchase (66%), then paying it off (34%). And for most of them, COVID-19 was no barrier to making a large purchase.
