Catherine Wright, UC Instructor of English, has received a full scholarship from the Key West Literary Seminar to attend its upcoming event. The seminar will take place in Key West, Florida, in early January 2022.

The mission of the Key West Literary Seminar is to promote the understanding and discussion of important literary works and their authors. Scholarships are awarded to provide support for those who are making a positive impact on readers in their communities.

This year’s seminar theme is “A Seminar Named Desire,” and will gather acclaimed writers in conversation about what the website describes as “the elemental urge at the center of human activity: desire.” (https://www.kwls.org)

The Scholarship Program reduces fees for teachers and librarians and recognizes the work of outstanding emerging writers. There were twenty recipients of full scholarships for the 2022 seminar.

The website describes Wright as teaching in “one of the most diverse schools in the state, composed of students from more than forty countries. Her work there revolves around understanding a sense of community, living through service, and challenging the struggles so many of her students experience finding their place in the world.”
