Charleston, WV – August 18, 2021 – A dedication ceremony will be held Monday, August 23 at 5:00 pm to celebrate the opening of the Boathouse Outdoor Recreation Center on the campus of UC.

Over the summer, the former boathouse has been transformed into an outdoor recreation center that will provide students with a wide variety of activities – from lawn games to bicycle rentals to kayaks and more.

The renovations were financed through the university’s “Give for Gold” campaign and several private donors who will be recognized at the ceremony:

John & Fonda Elliot

Kimberly Lawrence

Ann Moran

Pepsi Bottling Group, LLC

Cathy & Joe Rice

Cherry & Bill Rice

UC Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity Members

Gaines Wehrle

Michael Wehrle & Jeana Trout.

The dedication will take place at the boathouse on the riverbank lawn. It will coincide with the university’s EagleFest, providing a welcome back event for new and returning students to celebrate the beginning of a new school year.

Nearly 700 UC students will have moved into residence halls the weekend prior to the event. Over 1300 total students are enrolled, studying at the Charleston campus, Beckley location and online.
