The University of Charleston School of Pharmacy seeks applicants for Assistant / Associate/ Full Professor in the Acute Care – Internal Medicine practice area.  The School of Pharmacy is an instrument of the University of Charleston, designed to prepare pharmacists who will provide comprehensive patient care, advance the profession through research and advocacy, and to serve the community as leaders in rural health care.  The School fosters active participation of faculty, staff and students in an agenda of community outreach, advocacy, and activism as one of the hallmarks of the pharmacy program.  The University of Charleston’s Pharmacy School offers an integrated curriculum that seeks to develop pharmacy practitioners who are able to effectively communicate with diverse populations and work as an integral member of the healthcare delivery team.

The overall desire is for the faculty member to be highly integrated into the multi-disciplinary teaching model.  Internal medicine teams may include any combination of an attending physician, medical residents, interns, and students, as well as, a clinical pharmacist, pharmacy residents, and fourth-year pharmacy students.

The faculty member’s time will involve teaching fourth-year pharmacy students and providing patient-centered services at the practice site, participating in the education and training of the school’s PGY1 residents, and providing didactic education in the classroom. The faculty member will also be expected to participate in both scholarship and service activities.

The internal medicine practice site for this position is at a hospital in the greater Charleston, WV area. The faculty position is full-time, non-tenure track (rank and salary commensurate with skills and experience).

  • Faculty members are expected to support the vision and mission of the School of Pharmacy through teaching in the professional pharmacy curriculum
  • Providing pharmacy services to identified clinical practice sites
  • Participating in scholarly activities and being an active member of School of Pharmacy committees
  • Improving patient health outcomes in the state and region
  • Responsible for maintaining a clinical practice and education model with an inpatient rounding medical team at a hospital in the greater Charleston area



  • Pharm.D. degree
  • Completion of a one- or two-year pharmacy residency (or equivalent practice experience)
  • Eligible for licensure in West Virginia
  • A high degree of knowledge of standards and current trends in pharmacy practice, particularly in the area of acute care
  • Previous academic experience is highly desired
