Assistant Athletic Trainer

JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist in all aspects of Athletic Training Clinical Services including the day-to-day function of the Athletic Training Facilities.

This is a 10-month position (Aug 1st – May 31st annually) with clinical duties.  The Assistant Athletic Trainer will report directly to the Coordinator of Clinical Services & Head Athletic Trainer.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

Clinical/Medical Services Responsibilities

Ongoing communication with the Coordinator of Clinical Services regarding athletic training services and medical care

Demonstrate compliance with the Athletic Training Medical Policy & Procedure Manual and assist with periodic review

Assist with medical services and all appropriate administrative work as coordinated with the Coordinator of Clinical Services, including but not limited to:

  1. Practice and event coverage and additional clinical services
  2. Appropriate referrals and referral network
  3. Coordination of team physicians (referrals, weekly visits, and home event coverage)
  4. Facility and equipment care and maintenance
  5. Inventory and ordering of supplies and equipment
  6. Claim forms for secondary athletic insurance for submission to the Athletic Department
  7. Comprehensive medical files of student-athletes

 

Provide quality athletic training services to athletes, including, but not limited to, prevention, evaluation, assessment, rehabilitation, conditioning, referral, and documentation for assigned sports and other sports as needed, with post season travel

  1. Demonstrate compliance with the Athletic Training Medical Policy & Procedure Manual
  2. Maintain and update student-athlete medical records in a timely manner

 

Remain current in best practices and current issues/trends within the profession

Work cooperatively and collaboratively within the department

Demonstrate appropriate professional behaviors

Perform other duties as outlined by the Coordinator of Clinical Services

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

Licensed as an athletic trainer in the state of West Virginia

National Athletic Trainers’ Association member in good standing

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of one (1) years of experience as an athletic trainer at any setting
  • NCAA experience preferred
  • Advanced certifications related to patient care are strongly encouraged
