Academic Success Center

The University of Charleston has an immediate need for an Academic Services Coordinator. The Coordinator assists in the development, coordination, and implementation of student support services which promote academic success, student retention, and degree attainment. This is a full-time 12-month position reporting directly to the Director of the Academic Success Center.

 

Essential functions of the position:

  • Direct the hiring, training, assignment and supervision of the following:
    • Peer tutors
    • Teaching Assistants
    • Proctors
    • Work study students
  • Oversee the delivery and utilization of online tutoring services
  • Manage standardized testing policies and procedures, including testing accommodations for ADA purposes and testing contracts
  • Provide student success services and guidance to students, including assistance with placement testing and academic success coaching
  • Assist instructors and coaches with referrals to student support services for students with academic or personal concerns that interfere with academic success
  • Monitor academic performance of student-athletes in consultation with the Faculty Athletic Representative
  • Support the processing and implementation of disability and accessibility service requests
  • Ensure compliance with FERPA and HIPPA guidelines
  • Provide instructional support for developmental courses offered through the ASC
  • Prepare and disseminate information about ASC services, including content for the ASC homepage on the University website
  • Conduct class visits to disseminate information about ASC services as requested
  • Serve on student support committees as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in student services and/or higher education
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and produce detailed and accurate work in a hectic work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
    Excellent computer skills, including word processing and database work (MS Word and MS Excel)
  • Customer service-oriented and must enjoy interacting with students
