University of Charleston

Attending our New Student Orientation program is a crucial first step toward academic success as a University of Charleston student.

Welcome to UC!

Golden Eagle freshman and transfer students have special orientation programs – created to help ease them into their UC life. During our orientation program, you will begin your University course, socialize, meet your classmates, and meet many of our returning students.

We have designed our orientation program with a variety of mandatory and elective programs. You’ll learn more about UC, get prepared for your first day of class, and have a lot of fun.

Orientation schedules are provided closer to move-in day and the start of the semester. Once the schedule is finalized, it will be posted here.

Week of Welcome

The fun begins with WOW (Week of Welcome), starting with new student move-in on Friday. All students and their families are invited to attend the Freshman Induction Convocation, followed by a special dinner on campus.

Orientation is mandatory for new students – it will help you ease into your UC life, learn more about what’s available on campus, meet other people, and more. There are also other mandatory events during our Week of Welcome – most of them are a lot of fun.

But orientation isn’t all about learning – there are several social events throughout the weekend and during your first week of classes to celebrate your becoming a Golden Eagle.

EagleFest takes place the first Monday after classes. It includes a picnic dinner, music, free T-shirts (and who doesn’t love a free T-shirt?!), and many activities on our riverfront lawn. Past years have included paddle boarding on the river, volleyball, bubble ball, game trucks, a photo booth, an inflatable obstacle course, and more.

If you have questions about orientation, please contact Virginia Moore at virginiamoore@ucwv.edu.
