University of Charleston

Greetings, and welcome to the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy (UCSOP).

Our mission is to prepare pharmacists who will play a leadership role in their communities through advocacy, scholarship, and innovation. We value inter-professional patient care, collaborative community outreach, innovative leadership, professionalism, and student success. We celebrate the accomplishments of our students, faculty, and staff and nurture a culture of diversity and inclusion. The School of Pharmacy is nationally recognized for the achievements of our students and our commitment to service and community outreach. Our vision is to become a powerful advocate for the health care needs of rural and underserved communities in West Virginia and throughout the region.

The program of study at the University of Charleston is both rigorous and richly rewarding. Our four-year, technology-infused, curriculum focuses on managing the healthcare problems of patients in rural and underserved communities. We strongly believe in the value of experiential education and active learning. Our program is designed to expose students to a variety of patient care settings and inter-professional educational initiatives both on campus and at a variety of experiential sites throughout the area. We also stress the importance of becoming an advocate for patients by providing our students with various opportunities to meet with federal, state and county policymakers who influence the level, extent, and scope of pharmacists’ practice.

Our faculty and staff pride themselves on being student-centered and teaching-focused. Our program features small class sizes, which enable us to provide individualized attention to each student. The average class size at the UCSOP is about 60 students, and the student-faculty ratio is only 9:1. We also support our students with scholarship opportunities, which makes the UCSOP a highly affordable option. Please contact us for details.

A pharmacy education will prepare you for a fantastic variety of career opportunities in a profession that consistently ranks as one of the most highly trusted professions in the world. Our faculty serve as mentors throughout the program, ensuring that our students acquire the knowledge, professional skills, and cultural competence that will serve as the foundation for a successful career as a pharmacist.

Please explore our website and learn more about our program, our faculty, and our staff. We work hard to ensure that our students are involved in making a meaningful difference in the health of Appalachian residents and beyond.
