PharmD Academy to take place June 22 – 24, 2020

CHARLESTON, W.VA- The University of Charleston School of Pharmacy is pleased to offer a virtual summer camp, PharmD Academy, June 22-24, 2020.

This is an opportunity for high school juniors, seniors, and college undergraduate students to experience the pharmacy profession and has no cost to attend. The camp will include live and pre-recorded sessions. Topics of the sessions will include career opportunities in pharmacy, role of the pharmacist in health crisis management, undergraduate and graduate admissions process review, UC pre-pharmacy and pharmacy opportunities, and remarks from the President of UC and the Interim Dean of UCSOP.

PharmD Academy attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in roundtable discussions with practicing pharmacists, faculty, and current pharmacy students. The camp is also set to feature classes on pharmacogenomics, simulation, and compounding lab activities. Prizes will be awarded during the live sessions.

“While the COVID-19 pandemic has prevented us from being able to host our usual summer camp this year, we’re very excited to still have the opportunity to share this experience with you virtually. Perhaps, one silver lining we can find in the pandemic is highlighting the essential role pharmacists play in public health. That includes everything from providing continued access to lifesaving medications, participating in research for new treatments, serving as a credible source of information for the community, conducting COVID-19 screening tests, to administering a potential vaccine in the future,” said Michelle Knight, UCSOP Executive Director of Enrollment and Admissions.

Students can register now until June 19 at www.ucwv.edu/academy.
