University of Charleston

March 3, 2020 – Students from Boone, Clay, Kanawha and Putnam counties will compete at the University of Charleston in the Regional Math Field Day competition.  There will be 112 students competing in this event.

The event kicks off at 8:00 am with a welcome in the Geary Auditorium in Riggleman Hall. Then competitors will go to classrooms for the competition. There will be an awards ceremony in the Auditorium starting at 1:00.

Each county sends three students per grade (grades 4-9) and a high school team of 10 students, representing grades 10-12, to compete.  The 4th-9th grade students compete for individual awards and 10th-12th grade students compete for both individual awards and team awards.  Individual awards are given for the top three places in each grade 4th-9th and the top 10 places in the high school (10th-12th) division.  A team award is given to the county high school (10th-12th) team with the highest score on team events.

Individual winners go on to compete at the state level in the West Virginia Math Field Day competition.
