University of Charleston

January 28, 2020 – Usually, the University of Charleston and West Virginia State University battle it out on the athletic playing field. In February, however, the two schools will go head to head (or arm to arm) as they participate in a “Blood Drive Battle” to help the American Red Cross.

The two schools will each host a blood drive on their campuses. The West Virginia State event will take place on February 6 in the WV State Student Union, from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

The University of Charleston will hold its drive February 12 in the UC Rotunda (Riggleman Hall), from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm.

The winner of the battle (the school that has the most donors) will be announced at halftime of the UC-State basketball game that will be played Saturday, February 29 in the UC Athletic Arena. Game time is 4:00 pm.

Every two seconds, someone in the US needs blood: accident and burn victims, those undergoing surgery, those battling cancer, and more. Because there is such an ongoing need, blood drives are critical to having adequate supplies on hand. For more information about donating blood, visit the American Red Cross website at
