Student Involvement

Student Government Association (SGA)

Each student at the University of Charleston registered for twelve (12) or more credits is encouraged to become active in the Student Government Association, which provides an opportunity for involvement with campus issues and concerns. The SGA expresses student opinions, disseminates information to the student body, provides student leadership and represents the student body at various functions, offering students effective channels of communication throughout the University.

Student Activities Board (SAB)

The Student Activities Board (SAB) provides programs of an educational, cultural, and social nature such as lectures, comedy events, children’s events, daytime novelty artists, and other events to meet the needs and interests of our diverse student population. Students are encouraged to take an active role in the planning, programming, and participation in these activities. The SAB offers both residential and commuter students an assortment of quality programs that are designed to enhance the social and academic aspects of the educational experience.

Greek Life

Since 1776, Greek letter organizations have been an integral part of campus life at colleges and universities across the nation. Founded under the principles of scholarship, leadership, community service, and development of lifelong friendships, Greek members still practice these fundamental principles in the pursuit of collegiate excellence. The University of Charleston has two national and/or regional Fraternities, Tau Kappa Epsilon and Kappa Delta Rho. There are three local sororities: Delta Phi Delta, Kappa Tau Epsilon, and Theta Kappa Pi. All the Greek organizations have a rush during the fall and spring semesters, during which students have the opportunity to learn more about Greek life and its benefits. Being a Greek promises an active role in campus life, as well as inner development in leadership roles and teamwork.

Student Organizations

There are many other organizations on campus that meet the diverse interests of the student population. Listed below are current student groups active on campus. Although there are numerous groups that have existed for many years and continue to interest and involve new students, any group of students may form a new organization. Establishing a new organization is a very simple process; details can be found in the Office of Student Life.
