WorldFest is University of Charleston's annual multi-cultural and international festival held every February. The celebration is designed to highlight the presence of international students on campus, as well as multicultural groups on campus and in the community. The event's goal is to promote international education and cooperation by allowing international students a forum to educate and inform others about their homelands UC's international students represent 29 countries from all parts of the world, including Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Caribbean. International students set up booths to showcase their countries. Food and gifts are available.
WorldFest is a great opportunity for international students to demonstrate these skills, but an equally important goal is to get their American friends excited about living and studying abroad as these international students are doing. International students at UC come great distances to study in the United States. Not only in terms of physical distance, but measured in terms of their skills and abilities which they learned in order to get to the point where they can live, work and study effectively in the United States.
They have much to show American students because they have successfully made the transition by learning a foreign language and adopting their behavior to meet the cultural expectations of the U.S. WorldFest is intended just as much for American students, who more often than in the past, will be asked to function effectively across cultures in today's interconnected world.
