High School Business Ethics Case Competition to be Held at University of Charleston

Release Date:  Tuesday, October 15, 2013

Charleston, W.Va.   - The University of Charleston Enactus team will host the fourth annual High School Business Ethics Case Competition in Geary Student Union on Thursday, October 17 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

This year’s High School Business Ethics Case Competition features over 80 students participating from schools such as Braxton County, Grafton, Greenbrier West, Jefferson, Liberty, Nitro, Ripley, Sissonville and St. Albans high schools, as well as Mason County Career & Technical Center. This is the largest field in the event’s history.

Teams are split into leagues and given 30 minutes to analyze and prepare a presentation of an ethics case. Judges select a winning team from each league to move on to the finals. Advancing teams will then be given another case and 45 minutes to analyze and prepare a presentation. Along with organizing the entire event, UC Enactus students developed a DVD for each competing team with an ethical case analysis on it to help with preparation.

The competition is two rounds and first, second, and third place teams will be chosen by a panel of judges to receive $1,000, $750 and $500 in prize money, respectively. BB&T, BrickStreet and Gibbons & Kawash return as sponsors for the competition.

Last year, UC Enactus completed over 2,000 community service hours. The team conducted 14 sustainable projects, including mentoring over 50 students at the St. Albans Boys & Girls Club, installing water bottle filling stations across UC's campus to combat plastic waste and providing business and marketing support for Timothy's at the Quarrier Diner. Their efforts earned a second consecutive Top 40 finish at the Enactus National Expo in May.
