Charleston, W.Va.  - The University of Charleston School of Pharmacy has been awarded a $10,000 Walgreens Diversity Scholarship, which will help continue, implement and support programs that have a positive impact and aspire to promote diversity at UC. Walgreens Pharmacy Supervisor Dr. Debra Harris and Market Pharmacy Director of the Walgreens Indianapolis market Chris Creamer presented the check to Dean Michelle Easton on Monday, November 15 at the UC School of Pharmacy.

“The University of Charleston School of Pharmacy is very grateful to Walgreens for their continued support of our diversity initiatives,” said Dr. Easton. “These funds are impactful in our efforts to ensure that we train health professionals who are aware and sensitive to the needs of an increasing diverse patient population in West Virginia and beyond.”

This is the fourth consecutive year Walgreens has donated to the UC School of Pharmacy. In addition to financial support, Walgreens also provides training sites and preceptors annually for UC student pharmacists. Since 2010, 27 UC pharmacy graduates have been hired to work at a Walgreens pharmacy.

Since 2008, Walgreens has donated $1 million each year to accredited schools of pharmacy to support diversity initiatives.
