Charleston, W.Va. – Students from the University of Charleston Sports Administration program are hosting the second annual UC Half Marathon and 5K on Sunday, April 28. The event will take place through Kanawha City and start and end on UC’s Charleston campus.
The success of last year’s race, which saw 300 participants, has served as a launch pad for the Sports Administration program’s 2013 event. Students have been vigorously working since last fall to improve the race format.
“We have taken a couple different approaches and added new things to make this race even better than last year’s,” said Kortney Dorow, race co-director and Sports Administration student.
The event still offers both the Half Marathon and 5k races. Courses have been simplified and offer a scenic run near the Kanawha River right across from the beautiful State Capital Building. Both races start and end on campus and provide this wonderful view of the Charleston area.
After months of hard work, the Sports Administration students are anxious for the race.
“The students here at UC are passionate about their work and we look forward to seeing a successful race here in April,” said Adam Hintz, race co-director.
Registration for the race is available online. For more information, visit: http://www.uchalfmarathon.com.
The 2012-13 academic year marks UC’s 125th anniversary as an academic institution. UC was founded in 1888 as Barboursville Seminary, renamed Morris Harvey College in 1901, moved to Charleston in 1935 and was renamed the University of Charleston in 1978.
