Dr. Joseph Janisch

UC Concert Choir and University Singers Conductor

Dr. Joseph JanischJoseph Janisch is an Associate Professor of Music and the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Charleston in Charleston West Virginia where he conducts the Concert Choir and University Singers. Janisch teaches several first-year humanities classes each semester including a "Web/Saturday" class designed to meet the needs of advanced first year students and transfer students. Dr. Janisch also teaches the Liberal Learning Senior Capstone Course.

Dr. Janisch received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Ohio State University, a Master of Music degree from Bowling Green State University, and a Bachelor of Music Degree from Ashland (Ohio) University.

As a conductor, Janisch has led a variety of choral ensembles including mixed choirs, men's and women's choruses, and chamber ensembles. At Western Michigan University he served a one-year appointment as Interim Director of Choral Activities, conducted the Chorale and Collegiate Singers, and taught conducting classes. While serving as a Graduate Teaching Associate at The Ohio State University Janisch directed the University Chorus, Men's Glee Club, and Symphonic Choir. He has also led various choral ensembles at Bowling Green State University, the Choral and Performing Arts Association, and Richland Academy of the Arts. As a church musician, Janisch has served as Director of Music, choir director, and bell choir director at North Community Evangelical, Hope, and Saint Johns Lutheran churches. His teaching credentials include courses taught at Ohio State, Bowling Green, and Buckeye Central Local Schools where he was a kindergarten through twelfth-grade vocal music teacher for fourteen years.

Janisch, the recipient of the A. Peter Costanza Distinguished DMA Document Award, has also received graduate awards from the OSU Graduate Research Forum and Bowling Green State University. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Kappa Lambda honor societies, and his professional affiliations include membership in American Choral Directors Association, West Virginia Choral Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference, and West Virginia Music Education Association.
