Kendall Vintroux Political Cartoons

"Something for his Money." editorial cartoon from the Kendall Vintroux Collection, University of Charleston Archives.

A collection of over 300 original political cartoons by noted cartoonist Kendall Vintroux are housed in the University Archives. The pen and ink drawings were a gift from Mr. Vintroux to Morris Harvey College (now the University of Charleston).
Vintroux's cartoons stung both sides of the political spectrum equally. He "called 'em as he saw 'em," and in doing so constructed a visual political history of both West Virginia and the nation. His cartoons were reprinted in newspapers across the United States, making his name known far beyond the borders of his home state. President Harry Truman would occasionally request the original of a drawing that particularly touched his fancy. Those originals are now part of the collections of the Truman Library.

Vintroux's work has been widely exhibited, including shows at Princeton University, Syracuse University, the University of Missouri, the Truman Library, and the West Virginia State Museum.

The Kendall Vintroux Political Cartoons are available for inspection by appointment with the Library Director at 357-4918 of by e-mail
