Rocco J. Gorman Civil War Collection

Rocco Gorman, a staunch supporter of the university, was noted for his dedication to sports, especially to football. It is for him that that the university's Gorman Physical Education Building was named. However, Mr. Gorman also dedicated much time and effort to the study history, especially of the United States Civil War. During his life he accumulated an extensive collection, of books, pamphlets, news clippings, and maps related to the war and its combatants. On Mr. Gorman's death in 1971, his widow donated the collection to the University. Many of the items are extremely rare. A good portion are autographed by their noted authors or owners.

The Rocco Gorman Civil War Collection is housed in the Special Collections Room.
