The University of Charleston Office of Financial Aid works with each student individually to put together the very best financial aid package. In order to be considered for scholarships and financial aid at the University of Charleston, students are required to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

University of Charleston Scholarships 2014–2015

The scholarships listed here are for undergraduate students only. Scholarships do not apply to graduate programs at the University of Charleston.

SCHOLARSHIPS REQUIREMENTS AWARD INFORMATION
Presidential Scholarships*
- for Freshman students
  • ACT score of 28 or higher or SAT score of 1250 or higher
  • Academic GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Must live on campus
  • Selection based upon competition during President’s Circle Scholarship Day
 
  • Full tuition scholarship
  • Not to be combined with other University scholarships
  • Limited number awarded
  • Outside scholarships and grants may reduce the University contribution to the total award
 
Welch Colleague Scholarship * 
- for Freshman students
  • High School Academic GPA 3.25 or higher
  • Past and/or current community involvement and leadership
  • Must live on campus
  • Selection based upon competition during President’s Circle Scholarship Day
 
  • $5,000 per year
  • Must participate in the Welch Colleague Program
 
Merit Scholarships
  • ACT score of 22 or higher
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Selection based upon competition during President’s Circle Scholarship Day
 
  • $1,000-4,000 per year
 
UC & Leonard Riggleman Scholarships
- for Freshman and Transfer students
  • Based on high school GPA and ACT/SAT scores for freshmen
  • Or based on college GPA for transfers
  • Possible in-person or phone interview
 
  • Awards vary
 
Student Ambassador Scholarships *
  • High school GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Selection based upon competition during President’s Circle Scholarship Day
 
  • $2,000 per year
 
Athletic & Cheerleading Scholarships
  • Must be an outstanding NCAA Division II level athlete and meet UC admissions requirements
  • Offered by athletic coaches
 
 
  • Awards vary by team
  • Not to be combined with other University scholarships
 
Chorus & Pep Band Scholarships
  • Audition for choir or pep band required
  • Music major not required
 
  • Awards vary by musical program
  • Participation in Concert Choir or Pep Band
 
National Guard Scholarship
  • Solider to have completed basic training (AIT) by enrollment date
  • Applies to undergraduate work
 
  • Scholarships for WV Army and Air Guard
 

*Several other scholarship opportunities exist, including Legacy Scholarships, Need Grants, UC Grants, and more. These programs are designed to help make a highquality private university education affordable.
