Barbara D. Doak, BSPharm, RPh, CDCES, is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy. She received her B.S. Degree in Pharmacy from West Virginia University, became a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE; now CDCES) in 1995, and became a Certified Lifestyle Coach for the CDC National Diabetes Prevention Program – Prevent T2 – in 2018. Barbara is a licensed pharmacist in West Virginia and Ohio. She has practiced as a staff pharmacist at Roane General Hospital in Spencer, WV, independent community pharmacist at Staats Pharmacy in Spencer, and chain community pharmacist at CVS before taking a faculty position at the University in 2010. On campus, Barbara lectures on various subjects related to public health, medication safety and adherence, disease management, and self-care. She coordinates and teaches patient care skills labs as well as precepts third- and fourth-year student pharmacists on rotation at her clinical practice site at Staats Pharmacy in Spencer, WV. She provides wellness and education services to the community with a focus on diabetes prevention, diabetes self-management, osteoporosis, and hypertension.
