Our Mission

The concept of Career Development extends our University's distinctive mission. Our role is to prepare students to excel in the transition from undergraduate study to career readiness - to be able to effectively meet the challenges of today's professional world.       Career readiness involves the effort of each student to apply their growing understanding of self and the meaning of their accrued experiences to the formation of career goals. Experiences of students who are engaged in University life will typically include:

• Outcomes-based course work
• Mentoring guidance
• Active participation in clubs, organizations, athletics, and residential life activities
• Extensive community service
• Professionally-directed field based experiences
• Senior capstone projects

      With guidance from the Center's professional staff, students will draw from these experiences to develop a sense of purpose in career development. Some will begin with a clear focus on a particular field of interest and initiate a plan to develop credentials and skills. Others will begin with a general idea, but seek us out to help narrow and clarify a particular direction. Yet others will seek that starting point and move through the entire career development process.

Through CCD's programs and other venues of assistance, every student will have direct support in their efforts to identify, secure, and make the most out of an array of professional opportunities culminating in semester-long quality internships. Such directed learning experiences will ably prepare you to shape critical next steps whether your goal is immediate postgraduate employment or admission to advanced degree programs.       Our resources include a library collection and on-line and database information which offer extensive information on career preparation strategies as well as specific internship and career possibilities. With solid understanding of the changing global marketplace, and our commitment to be continually responsive to the needs of our diverse student body, CCD staff members continuously seek to develop new opportunities for UC students.
