Meet Our Faculty

Dr. David A. Latif, M.B.A., Ph.D.

Professor and Department Chair of Pharmaceutical and Administrative Sciences at the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Georgia, a Masters of Business Administration from Augusta State University, and a doctorate in Pharmacy Administration from Auburn University’s Department of Pharmacy Care Systems.   At Auburn, his doctoral research revolved around predictors of clinical performance in pharmacists.

Dr. Latif’s current research interests include:

  • Examining the relationship between pharmacists' moral reasoning, their work climates, and specific performance measures, such as clinical decision-making;
  • Financial management at both an individual and company level;
  • Assessing the comparative effectiveness of strategies to optimize healthcare outcomes for patients with multiple co-morbidities; and
  • Predictors of pharmacy student success.

Since obtaining his doctorate in 1997, Dr. Latif has published over 65 peer-reviewed articles. Dr Latif’s research publications have appeared in several journals, including the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, Annals of Pharmacotherapy, Journal of American Pharmacists Association, Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy, Journal of Business Ethics, Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy, International Journal of Pharmacy Practice, Pharmacy World and Science, Pharmacy Education, and the Journal of Medical Marketing.  In addition, he has presented his research findings at numerous scholarly pharmacy and management conferences.
