Welch Colleague Scholarship - Charleston Campus Only

The Welch Colleague Leadership Studies Program is a leadership studies program named for Dr. Edwin Welch, president of the University of Charleston. In the Welch Colleague Program, students:

  • Explore their own leadership styles
  • Study and propose solutions to real-world problems
  • Work with leaders in nonprofit organizations
  • Design and implement their own community change projects

On the successful completion of their course of studies in the program, students receive a leadership minor.

The Welch Colleague Program is open to students from all majors. Fifteen new Welch Colleagues are chosen each year and each receives a significant tuition scholarship.

Why should you become a Welch Colleague?

  • You will enhance your leadership skills by talking face-to-face with community leaders.
  • You will address real-world problems and learn how to make informed decisions that will have an impact on yourself and your community.
  • Leadership studies and experience will set you apart from many graduating seniors when you enter the job market.
  • You will meet other students with similar interests and concerns—students like you who want to make a difference in the world.
  • You’ll have fun! Welch Colleagues from all classes gather together several times a year for activities.
