The University of Charleston Office of Financial Aid works with each student individually to put together the very best financial aid package. In order to be considered for scholarships and financial aid at the University of Charleston, students are required to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

University of Charleston Scholarships 2016–2017

The scholarships listed here are for undergraduate students only. Scholarships do not apply to graduate programs at the University of Charleston.

Presidential Scholarship Full Tuition
  • High School GPA of 3.8 or higher
  • ACT 28 or SAT 1250
  • Must live on campus
  • Must interview with the President, November 14th competition or January 30th
Welch Innovation Scholarship
(for Freshman students. Transfer
students may compete if they
have 60 hours or less of college credit.)

  • High School GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Must live on campus
  • Must submit an abstract of your innovative idea or project by November 10th for the November 14th competition, or by January 10th for the January 30, February 20 or March 19th competition dates

Merit Scholarships $500–$3,000
  • ACT score of 22 or higher
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Selection based upon competition during President’s Circle Scholarship Day
Student Ambassador Scholarships $500–$3,000
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Selection based upon competition during Scholarship Days
Athletic & Cheerleading Scholarships Various
  • Must be an outstanding NCAA Division II level athlete and meet UC Admissions Requirements
  • Offered by athletic coaches
  • Can only be combined with academic scholarships awarded at acceptance and no other award
Chorus & Pep Band Scholarships Various
  • Audition for choir or pep band required
West Virginia National Guard Scholarship $14,900
  • Soldier to have completed basic training and AIT by enrollment date
  • Applies to undergraduate work
  • Scholarships for WV Army and Air Guard

Note: students can participate on one team and thus may not stack talent scholarships such as athletic, choir, innovation or merit. 

Several other scholarship opportunities exist, including Legacy Scholarships, Need Grants, UC Grants, and more. These programs are designed to help make a highquality private university education affordable.
